“Personal development" and "self-help" are the same for me, but to avoid sounding pathetic and desperate, I preferred using the former over the latter, not just in this article but in real life as well.

I started my personal development journey back in college. Our Speech Comm 101 professor showed us an Oprah interview of Randy Pausch where he reiterated some ideas from his last lecture in the university. I remember saving my allowance, so I can buy his book, The Last Lecture.
